Yoga is for any body, any shape, any age.
Release yourself from the idea you need to be a certain way to
step on the mat.- The Talalla Ethos
Our Ethos
At Talalla we believe yoga is for every body. No matter where you come from, your physical ability, or your experience on the mat — yoga is not a one-size-fits-all practice (despite how the yoga industry in the west can sometimes seem).
It’s not about what anyone else is up to on their mat. There is no room for comparison or competition in a yoga class, whether that is with someone else sharing the space or with yourself.
Our shalas are a space to shed any self-limiting beliefs holding you back from truly connecting to your self. Every time you step on your mat is different, and so your expectations should stay open and unbiased.
This is the essence of yoga — cultivating awareness. The art of noticing. Noticing your thoughts, your limitations, the moment.
Our Practice
At Talalla we share yoga that is grounded in tradition, cultivated through mindfulness, and expressed with intelligence. We share yoga with the why.
In a Talalla yoga class you can expect a well-rounded practice that includes meditation, breathwork, and movement — as it is traditionally done. We do incorporate modern touches like music and dynamic movement, but any modern addition is there to enhance your experience on the mat, not distract from the practice.
Every class is sequenced with intention — we always prepare the body before moving into more intense postures, for your safety and longevity on the mat.
Most importantly, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We take yoga seriously so you don’t have to.
Our Five Shalas
Talalla is a quietly perfect setting to practise yoga. Our property has five different yoga shalas for you to explore during your stay, each with its own character — jungle or ocean view, sunrise or sunset, open-air or AC.
Melanie
Melanie discovered yoga while travelling India in 2009. She continued to deepen her practice after returning home to California, gradually expanding her asana-focused work to explore pranayama, meditation, mantra and bhakti chanting, kundalini kriya, and Usui Reiki healing.
She has completed 700+ hours of teacher training across restorative, yoga therapeutics, prenatal, and aerial, and continues to study with Kia Miller’s Radiant Body Yoga program. She also holds a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology Movement Sciences from San Francisco State University.
Melanie shares a holistic approach to yoga, viewing the different modalities as maps to explore the layers of our human experience. Students describe her teaching style as nurturing, inspiring, and accessible to practitioners of all levels. She first taught at Talalla from 2016 to 2018 and is back to share yoga as a journey to wholeness.

FAQ
Do I have to be good at yoga?
Come exactly as you are. Yoga has nothing to do with how flexible or fit you are – those are handy byproducts of a consistent practice but totally besides the point. Yoga is for any body, any shape, any age.
How do I get there?
You can find us on Google Maps. From Hiriketiya, the journey takes around 20 minutes by tuktuk.
What do I bring?
We supply all equipment, so no need to bring a mat (unless you prefer your own). Bring a water bottle.
What do I wear?
Yogi’s choice. Anything you can move freely in and get a bit sweaty.
Do you offer aerial yoga for beginners? (NEW)
Yes – all aerial yoga classes are open to beginners. No prior aerial or yoga experience needed.
