Yoga with Kailash
About Kailash and his retreat dates
Kailash will be joining us here at Talalla from July 1st until September 30th 2012.
Kailash has been practising yoga and meditation in India, Thailand and elsewhere for the last twenty years. He has studied yoga with teachers from a multitude of traditions, notably Clive Sheridan and Emil Wendel. He has also spent many years immersed in meditation and dharma with Christopher Titmuss and Ajay Singh.
For the last 11 years he has been teaching yoga in Southeast Asia, India, Canada and Europe. Over the last two years he has been teaching in Chiang Mai at various yoga studios, and giving private one-to-one classes. He has also taught at The Sanctuary, south Thailand, and at the Vientiane Yoga Studio in Laos, over a few seasons. In addition, he has given classes and workshops in Tiruvannamalai, Rishikesh and Dharamsala (India), as well as in Singapore and Montreal, Canada. He has also facilitated meditation retreats in Thailand and dharma programs in India as part of the Open Dharma network.
"I have an eclectic approach to hatha yoga, inspired primarily by the Iyengar-adapted approaches of Erich Schiffmann and Dona Holleman. My emphasis is on awakening both energy and stillness at the same time through the proper application of alignment, breath, and biomechanics. I cover a whole range of styles, from dynamic vinyasa flows to gentle restorative classes, as well as pranayama.
My commitment is to guide, nourish and support each student, regardless of their level, to explore the edges of their practice, in an atmosphere that is challenging, fun, and safe. "
Kailash also teaches Shibashi, the 18 Movements form of Taichi Qigong, and does energetic healing. He is well-known for his clarity and empathy in communication, and is also fluent in French. He spends a significant amount of time every year on silent meditation retreat. This quality of stillness and presence shines through in his classes and in his being.

Testimonials from Talalla guests
I had done some yoga before coming to Talalla, but can honestly say that I learnt more in my first session with Kailash than I had in all my previous classes, put together! Kailash identified almost immediately that I was doing a number of key poses incorrectly, and rather than ignore this (as previous instructors had) Kailash gave me the tools to rectify the problems. As a result, my technique improved significantly over the course of just one week.
Having been to several yoga courses and retreats before, I can honestly say that my two weeks of taking part in your yoga classes twice a day, were by far the most beneficial to me- incredibly meditative and relaxing. Not only did your retreat give me a real insight into yoga, with your genuine care and attention to all levels beginners to advanced, but I also felt very much more flexible, fit and healthy by the end.
I had done very little yoga before, and was very inflexible from years of running and cycling with very little stretching. Kailash immediately put me at ease and began looking at where I needed to focus, as well as giving me specific, personalised asanas to help me progress. Within 3 sessions I could touch my toes having previously been barely able to make it to my ankles! There is still a lot for me to work on but Kailash has really opened my eyes to the benefits of increasing my mobility, as well as giving me the confidence and motivation to continue.
I really enjoyed your classes for a number of reasons, most of which was that they were different each practice. Oftentimes yoga instructors do the same sequence, or at least incorporate many of the same poses when doing multiple classes and workshops. I also liked that each session included chanting and meditation, but not too much. I learned some new applications (better way to do a handstand!) and better alignment based on your corrections, which I really appreciate. You have wonderful energy – you exude activity yet calmness.
Kailash led a beautiful retreat for us at Talalla. He is authentic in his spirituality and has tremendous knowledge to share for both beginners and advanced yoga practitioners. I have practiced yoga for many years now and Kailash was instrumental in introducing meditation to my practice, enhancing my knowledge of the meaning and history of yoga and allowed me to advance many postures. He has a kind way with his hands-on guidance and breathing instruction and a genuine concern for his students over all well being.
